About me

I’ve lived my life sheltered by the mountains of Utah, Nevada, and Colorado and earned my living in snug classrooms filled with laughter and learning. Along the way, I played a variety of roles: some well, others not so well; some enjoyable, others not.

I loved, longed, celebrated, procrastinated, achieved, despaired and thrilled. And as one year faded into another, I continually tried to make my naturally wavy hair either straighter or curlier.

Today I share a comfortable home with a husband I love and enjoy in a small, northwestern Colorado town that suits me. And—most days—I count my blessings.

  1. You can take pride in the fact that you are introducing this old lady, not aging so gracefully currently, to something new. I have NEVER blogged so I am impressed. See you Wed. (according to my post it note).

    • You’re right, Cinique, we were having fun snowshoeing in the Medicine Bow area. Joel had just stepped into a gully full of soft snow and had to wallow his way out: thus the snow to his waist.
Your comparing him to John Fox also made him smile.

  2. Oh Janet,
A dear friend acquainted me with your blog. It’s great! I thought about you often as I trained educators supposedly in the finer arts of teaching just as you taught me! I look forward to reading your book and blog. My daughter just started on a journey today to Denver for a new, perfect job.
    Many blessings to you!!

    • Laurel, my heart leaped with happiness when I saw I had a comment from you. I’ve thought of you often and wondered how you are doing. Thank you for finding and enjoying my blog. If you’d like a copy of my book and haven’t already ordered one, please order it from me so I can inscribe it for you. I could mail it to you or deliver it: I’ll be in Carson from April 22 through 25. You could email me from the blog’s Contact Me page if you’d like to order from me. Again, you made my day with your message.

  3. Hey Janet,
I’d love to buy four of your books…one for me, one for my sister, Lisa, one for my mom Gloria and one for my mother-in-love, Margaret. Let me know how much and what kind of payment you want. Do you think the books will be here in time to mail for Mother’s Day? Lastly, Deirdre Pederson invited my to attend their book club when you are here and I’m planning on attending. Our Seeliger book club group, the YaYas are going to be reading your book too. So exciting to have a published author in our midst!!
    Can’t wait to hug you!!

  4. Good morning my dear friend Janet, aka. Aunt Beulah or my aka for you, the run away principal. Obviously it was an excellent decision, would love to meet Joel, he has to be a special person.
I’m slowly learning how to navigate the Internet and all things on my iPhone and iPad. It was your corresponding with our Miracle Warrior Laurel, that I learned of your visit to Carson. Is it the beginning of a national book tour? Did you know hysterical Sally Mosher Mooney also published a book? It’s wonderful too, you can just hear her voice as I do yours in your prose.
My birthday party was an amazing surprise, I loved every minute. Thank you so much for your beautiful letter. Micheline read it, made me shed a few tears. You remembered things I’d forgotten! Oh, well goes with the territory.
I too would like to order a book. I would love to see you but I know how precious time becomes on a short visit. The Seeliger retirees meet every Wed Am at 8:00 at the San Rafael Coffee Company. 711 S Carson St. A little south of the Ormbsy house on the opposit side of the street. We would all love to see you.
Hope your mouth and eyes continue to serve you better. My dear friend Susan after her cataract surgery exclaimed, “OMG, I can’t believe how many cobwebs there are in the house”. Massive house cleaning.
Enjoy your visit. Keep writing and stay healthy. Big hugs, Dianne

    • That’s wonderful, Carrie, and your kind words make me happy, but, being new to blogland, what does being nominated mean? I hope it means I’ll need to buy a new dress for an occasion, but have my doubts. Could you explain?

      • Hi 🙂 It means that to accept the award you have to nominate 7 of your own favorite blogs who you think deserve the beautiful blogger award. Go to the link I provided you and you can get an idea of how to accept the award. You write about and thank the blogger who nominated you, then nominate 7 of your own favorite blogs. It is like a chain-letter…without the guilt! You can chose to do nothing too, it is just a fun way for your readers to learn about new blogs and for bloggers to support each other.

  7. Thank you so much, Janet, for stopping by and your “like.” (Was it the post on face lifts that brought you over?) I fear my blog is far less uplifting about getting old than yours is, but please do feel welcome to come again.

  8. You are so welcome. After your response to my post on hobbies, I read the name on your blog and decided it was something I’d enjoy; and, indeed, I liked the face-lift post very much.

  9. I came upon your blog after seeing you on Freshly Pressed. Since I am a hobby person and approaching retirement I wanted to look further. And as it turns out I am your neighbor to the south in New Mexico. I will anticipate reading more of your blog.

    • Dixie, I’m as happy to hear from you as I was to find your blog.Thank you for your interest in my book. An idea: If you wouldn’t mind the bother of buying it directly from me, I would love to inscribe it with a message for you. If that would work, send me an email and we can work out the details. If not, perhaps I could write a message on a label and mail it to you so you could stick it inside your copy. Either way, I appreciate your kind words.

  13. So happy to have found you via someone else’s blog. You look very happy and seem to share the same kind of wonderful relationship my husband and I do. Good for you lady! I love your writing style and can’t wait to read more.

    • Thank you, Kim, for finding me and for spending some time visiting my blog. We have been on the road, so please forgive me for my tardy response to your kind comment. You’re right: I am mostly happy and my relationship with my husband is strong and true. (That’s a nice thing to be able to say, isn’t it?) I will visit your blog soon and look forward to a rewarding blog friendship with you.

    • Thank you for noticing my absence and for your concern, Neil. I am fine, but for several months have felt my life had become too cluttered with busyness, that I was missing out on the quiet moments I had retired for by trying to do too much. So I began re-evaluating my use of time and making changes, among them a decision to stop blogging myself so I could concentrate on the blogs of others whose writing and topics I enjoy, yours among them. I’m due to post a blog tonight, and it will be my decision to stop writing Aunt Beulah. It will focus on my need for more time to be appreciative of my life, which is true, rather than my need to have more time to read blogs, because I’m going to be selective about those I continue to read regularly.Hey, you fortunate fellow, how does it feel to be among the chosen few?

    • I’m glad you liked my blog. I, too, started by thinking I’d give it a year, but instead gave it five before deciding to put the timeI’d spent on it toward other things as I explained in my last post. Good luck!
